Hotels

Premier Inn Cockermouth Hotel

Egremont Road, Cockermouth CA13 0QX, UK – 0871 622 2327

Lovely clean room. Comfy bed. Great food and Dawn on reception was brilliant.

I have stayed in many premier inns over the years but this is nicest I have stayed in. Relatively newly built which does help, but staff and attached Brewers Fayre also very good.

Trout Hotel

3 Crown St, Cockermouth CA13 0EJ, UK – 01900 823591

Nice hotel with a good restaurant. Breakfast is very good with a great selection of dishes to choose from. Close to the river Derwent with a nice view from the parking lot. Beware of the flooding! :) The rooms are big and have all the necessary equipment that you need.

While in Cockermouth this is the place to go, for food it's amazing for drinks it's a plenty and for accommodation I've yet to sample, but that's only a matter of time, the setting is great and I wished the weather had allowed us more time outside but the diverse rooms within this hotel allowed for comfort no matter where you were. Highly recommended

The Manor House Hotel Cockermouth

Crown St, Cockermouth CA13 0EJ, UK – 01900 828663

I stayed here for three nights (14 - 17 July). Breakfast was superb, evening dinner, too. I stayed in room 7 on the first night and room 5 for the last two. I preferred room 7, though both were tip top. Beds were comfortable, rooms clean, and a most agreeable stay was had, not expensive either, staff, polite and helpful. Would stay again, this was a repeat visit and I highly recommend it.

This is a great little hotel. As the title suggests it's an historic building so if you likely take modern rooms then look elsewhere. It's traditional style is its charm. The welcome was wonderful and the team are incredibly friendly and accommodating. My room was quiet and very clean and the bed was excellent providing a great night sleep. I mentioned that Idmiss breakfast due to having to leave really early and I awoke to find a breakfast doggy bag awaiting me. A great and personal touch. Parking is ample and it's situated perfectly. I'll be staying here again.

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

Castle Bar

14 Market Pl, Cockermouth CA13 9NQ, UK – 01900 829904

The Castle Bar has everything. A historic building with great beer, awesome food and brilliant staff. The beer garden out the back is ideal on a sunny day. They had some Plum Porter yesterday which was the cream on the cake ! My request for a corner piece of steak pie was also not too much trouble. It was awesome steak pie too !

Really nice place. Unusual in that it is a good pub and a good restaurant at the same time. You can eat down in the bar or upstairs. I would definitely recommend the Lamb Henry, can't comment on anything else as I've had that every time I've visited. Good selection of beers too.

The Bitter End

15 Kirkgate, Cockermouth CA13 9PJ, UK – 01900 828993

I don't normally do reviews, in fact this might be my first one... But this pub is lovely. I went in for tea by myself with my 2 dogs, one of which is very shy and a bit tricky to handle, but the staff were really accommodating as they could tell i needed a bit of assistance. They brought the dogs some water off their own backs which was nice. The food was really good. And brought out quick despite how busy they were. Really nice atmosphere and it's an old, good pub. Would advise people to book if they want to eat. But it didn't feel busy, because they were on it!

Excellent food staff fantastic also has it's own craft beers and gins bitter end is a little gem which we use very often can never go wrong

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Anns Hill Holiday Cottages

Anns Hill, Bridekirk, Cockermouth CA13 0NY, UK – 01900 827838

Had a fantastic time as ever. Beautiful place to relax in.

My husband and I just got married and stayed in this stunning cottage. The cottage itself was immaculately clean and inviting; with a beautiful scenery from every window, of the cottage, luxurious bathroom to relax in, and a sensual bedroom to sleep in, was a real treat. Vanessa made our stay very personal, she kept in communication via text to ensure we were not in need of anything, yet respected our personal space. Breakfast was also nice, with homemade cakes and muffins, freshly made yogurt, even catering for my dairy free dietary requirements. There is a local town, lakes near by, a wild life centre and many more attractions; all a bonus to our week away. We would definitely recommend you staying at this cottage. Despite checkout being a little too early for me, I would still love to come back.Worth every penny!

You can find excellent very well priced accommodation around Cockermouth using Airbnb!

We run an Airbnb bed and breakfast down in Devon (house below) - and we have stayed in Airbnb accommodation all over the place. You can find the wonderful little gems with totally committed hosts and really frightful places which you put down to experience! You absolutely have to read the details of each listing - and read the reviews! We have had people coming to East Quither Farm expecting to take over our whole house -  or our kitchen etc simply because they have not read the description. Basically use Airbnb wherever we go - but we do do our homework!

Bed & Breakfast Accommodation plus Guesthouses

Ditton Lodge Bed and Breakfast

2 Papcastle Rd, Papcastle, Cockermouth CA13 0JN, UK – 01900 822154

The accommodation Lynne and Allan provide is exceptional, a nice surprise when walking through the door for the first time. I have stayed there for a number of nights and will continue to do so as I occasionally work in the area. The rooms are spotlessly clean, I have stayed in 5 star hotels throughout the UK on business which are not up to Ditton Lodges standards, fixture and fittings are first class and pride has been taken in kitting out the luxury Bathrooms. Very friendly couple, great breakfast I cannot imagine finding a better B&B.

Briar Bank Bed and Breakfast

14 Briar Bank, Cockermouth CA13 9DN, UK – 01900 826635

I didn't even know it was there until before and I live round the corner from it aswell😂😂

Sharon was a wonderful host and provided as much information as possible throughout our stay. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable, each day we were welcomed with home-made treats in our room. We opted for cooked breakfast each morning which did not disappoint! Plenty of choice to keep us fuelled for our 9 mile walk. Sharon made us feel very welcome, even borrowing us detailed maps for our explorations. Briar Bank has excellent certifications for hosting and food hygiene. We will definitely return on our next visit to Cockermouth.

Six Castlegate

6 Castlegate, Cockermouth CA13 9EU, UK – 01900 826786

We stayed here for a couple if nights while my wife attended Woolfest 2018. This us a great little B&B, the rooms are clean and comfortable, we stayed in a basic double room with en-suite bathroom. The owners were really nice and friendly and we had a lovely time. I would definitely stay here again the breakfast was great

Sam and Matthew were extremely welcoming. Rooms were spotless and the bed sheets crisp (which is nice).

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!
